Result of Uncontested Election - Benenden Parish

Following the recent nomination period for the election of Councillors, six valid nominations have been received and those named have been appointed as Councillors from 23rd May 2014.   There are still 3 vacancies on the Parish Council and an advertisement will shortly be posted to co-opt three further Councillors.

Dog Owners Warned Over Attacks On Sheep in the Weald

Marden farmer reports 40 sheep and lambs killed or maimed in March...

Kent Police is reminding dog owners to take responsibility for their pets after a number of sheep attacks in the county.

Owners are urged to keep pets under control around any livestock and reminded that farmers are within their rights to sometimes kill dogs, if they are deemed to be causing distress to flocks.

Chairman's Blog - April 2014

The election date of 22nd May is swiftly approaching.  All current Councillors are up for re-election and there are vacancies on the Parish Council too.  The nomination period runs from 14th to 24th April so if you are intending to put yourself forward for nomination, contact the Clerk for the forms and ensure you submit them to TWBC by 24th April.  Should you be away during this period as it is Easter, you may submit your nomination forms early.

Tyre thefts

Unfortunately it has been noted that there has been a spate of tyre thefts from 4 x 4s, particularly from under the vehicle where the owner is unlikely to notice until such time as they come to use it.  Please check your vehicle regularly and report any such thefts to the police.  Our local PCSO Lee Jules ( has been informed.

West Kent Business Support Programme - Home Businesses

Please see below information about the West Kent Business Support Programme that is currently offering free advice to local businesses across Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge & Malling and Sevenoaks.  In particular we wanted to highlight the targeted support for home-based businesses which might be of help to residents within your Parish. This element of the support programme is being delivered by the Centre for Micro-Business (CMB).

Bus Pass Scheme 11-16 year olds

Residents are being asked to comment on the proposed revision of the bus pass for 11-16 year-olds.  The new scheme – the Young Persons’ Travel Pass, which mirrors many of the benefits of the Kent Freedom Pass – would allow pass holders to travel by bus 6am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, from 1 September to 31 July. Consultation begins on Monday 24 February.
