BEACON LIGHTING 8TH MAY, 9.30pm
VE Day 80 takes place on 8th May to commemorate 80 years since Victory in Europe was declared. At 9.30pm beacons and lamp lights of peace will be lit across the UK and beyond symbolising the strength of communities and honouring the sacrifices made to secure our freedom.
Benenden’s beacon sits at one of the high points of the village, located at the top of the field immediately to the left (east) of Benenden Primary School.
Benenden Parish Council and Benenden Bonfire Society will be lighting the beacon at 9.30pm on Thursday 8th May and everyone is invited to come along and join this community event.
Attendees should bring a torch and wear stout footwear as the area of ground surrounding the beacon is uneven.
If you are able to help with marshalling during the evening please contact Graham Beveridge, grahamb@benendenparishcouncil.org.
